JBCEA was established in 1996 in Bangladesh by ex-JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) volunteers to pursue the activities for a better life of village people in Sharsha. Receiving authorized NPO (non-profit organization) status in Japan in 2015, we distinguished to call JBCEA for Japan office and JBCEA Bangladesh as partner NGO.
1. Supporting Activities of JBCEA Bangladesh on the three programs;
1) School Meal Program
JBCEA Bangladesh provides nutritious soy food lunch at public elementary school in Sharsha to improve health condition of children. School Meal Management Committee members, who are elected from guardians and important persons, are managing the school meal operation with assistance of JBCEA Bangladesh. Gradually reducing the supporting ratio for school meal, JBCEA and JBCEA Bangladesh shares with SMMC for a common goal of “Establishment of Sustainable School Meal Project Model by Community Participation” and are taking a role of facilitating.
2) Soy Cultivation and Dissemination Program
It is difficult for local people to buy expensive meat or fish. To avoid poor nutrition, JBCEA promote them to eat soy food for good health. JBCEA Bangladesh instruct farmers on how to cultivate soy and purchase for the use of soy food processing. People can buy soy donut, soy cake, soy bread at local sell point at reasonable price.
3) Handicraft & Tailoring (H&T) Program
JBCEA Bangladesh provide earning opportunity to poor village women by making traditional embroidery products, called “Nakshi kantha”. JBCEA Bangladesh manages 120 women producers in total from making orders to delivery finishing goods. JBCEA purchase most of products for Japan market to sell.
2. Human Resources Development
For the purpose of strengthening organizational power and developing staff capacity, JBCEA conduct training to JBCEA Bangladesh staff members at regularly basis. Starting from basic understanding of own role and responsibility, PDCA (Plan-Do-Check/See-Action), Ho-Ren-So, communication and information security, etc., each staff becomes eager to learn and acquires higher level of ability.
3. Cultural Exchange Program
JBCEA offer various opportunities to help understanding Bangladesh. For example, they are introduction of history, culture, people, village life, women’s development and issues, school meal activities, traditional handicraft workshop, cooking and tasting event.
4. Public Information
Through regular newsletter “Bondu” (means ‘friend' in Bengali), JBCEA introduce and explain program activities, local staff members and Bangladesh situation. JBCEA homepage and facebook are the other effective tools for publicity.
